Ricky Nelson, Dean Martin and Walter Brennan - Cindy, Cindy
Yesterday I posted Johnny Cash and Nick Cave singing a version of this song. This version is one of my all-time favorite movie scenes, from the classic Howard Hawks western Rio Bravo. The joy of the actors having fun is palpable on screen. If you’ve never seen Rio Bravo, do yourself a favor. It’s one of my favorite westerns and stars the great John Wayne.
elton. grandma’s turntable favorite. the sound of a childhood.
One of my turntable favorites as well. I have his first 8 albums on vinyl (up through Rock of the Westies). Elton John is probably one of two artists that I love that people are surprised to find out are among my favorites (the other being early rock-n-roll era Rod Stewart). If you’re a fan of country music, you need to check out Elton’s homage to country and American folklore Tumbleweed Connection, a thoroughly brilliant album.
Originally started as a Comets on Fire side project, Howlin’ Rain has developed into a full-time project. The San Francisco-based psych rock band combines laid-back 70’s rock grooves with modern psych into druggy, hazy, thoroughly American music. Their newest album, The Russian Wilds, was produced by Rick Rubin and released on his American Recordings. I highly recommend it for fans of early 70’s, drug-heavy rock n roll.
I didn’t post yesterday, but great song and video in honor of the Man In Black’s 80th birthday.
